Road Trip to The Big House - GO UTES!

What a crazy day. Trent's brother Jeff flew in from Utah this weekend and we road tripped it to Ann Arbor Michigan to watch the Utes beat Michigan in the Big House. There were over 100,000 fans and I guess they have sold out the stadium every game for the past ten years. I was talked into going to the game when I thought it was going to be 3 couples - but of course just my luck it ended up being me and five football crazy guys! It actually turned out to be a lot of fun and I'm glad they pulled off the win or the drive home would have been miserable.

The fans in Michigan were either extremely nice - or extremely scary. I had to run away from some guy trying to spray me with beer, and when we told another guy we were from Columbus he literally told us he had to walk away so he wouldn't do anything he would regret. (For those of you who don't know OSU & Michigan have the most intense football rivalry in the nation) - I guess he felt like anyone from Columbus needed a beat down or something. After that we strictly told people we were from Utah. It was so fun to have a visitor as always and we had a fabulous weekend. (Ahem - this is a shout out to anyone who hasn't come to Columbus, you know who you are, get the heck out here.)

In Lucy news - Matt & Haiquis were troopers and watched her all day/night Saturday so I could go to the game Lucy free. She learned to pull herself up in her crib this week and now refuses to let anyone else feed her - she has to do it herself, I wonder where she gets the attitude from.. hmm! What a punk!

And She Crawls...

After two weeks of outright bribery including but not limited to cookies, cheetos, remote controls and cell phones.. Lucy finally crawled toward - THE FIREPLACE. Interesting. I was so excited I shed actual tears. She had been going backwards for weeks and I guess she has just figured out that moving forward actually had advantages for her. She loves to scoot herself under the couch and hang out. Huh. She also kisses herself in any mirror she sees, and is suddenly obsessed with books - which I am loving.

In other news, I have recently become obsessed with craigslist and have put half my clothes, shoes and purses up for sale online so that I can buy a new rug for my living room without feeling guilty about it. The rug I have sheds so much that Lucy constantly looks like a giant piece of red lint and all day I try to keep her from eating the fuzz. I also decided to sell my coffee table and sold that in about an hour. Its kind of addicting so I think my house might be pretty bare in the near future.

**Update for the grandparents - what Smee did today - 8/21/08

1. Woke up at 5

2. Ate baby powder

3. Ate grass

4. Ate dirt

5. Learned how to open drawers - and slam her fingers in them (3 times)

6. Refused to let me feed her with a spoon - she wanted to do it herself. So I put a glob of spring vegetables on her tray and she picked the first glob up and put it in her mouth. I was so proud. She picked up the second glob and threw it at me.

7. Opened a book and scratched all the way across her face with the corner of the page

8. Hit her head on the wood floor (2 times, could have been 3 I'm losing track)

9. Hit her head on the door frame (1 time)

She looks so innocent....

9 months old and Pretty Dang Smart

Lucy has mastered some incredible skills (no not bow hunting)
now that she is 9 months old.

How to avoid wearing a diaper at all costs.

How to be BFF with my parents dog Murphy

How to LOVE EATING and make it impossible for anyone to eat something in front of you

How to avoid eating peas

But the most crucial step of all - how to be bribed into cuddling... All it takes is Baby Einstein Shakespeare and she is putty in your hands! God Bless the inventor of Baby Einstein, and while I'm doing baby product shout outs... God Bless Gerber Graduates Cheese Puffs, which make eating out at a restauraunt an (almost) enjoyable experience once again.
